TRAVEL | April 2016 Part II | Kinderdijk

During our last day in Rotterdam, we took a half hour boat ride out just 15km east to the quaint village of Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 19 pristinely preserved windmills that were built in 1740 as part of an innovative water management system to drain excess water and prevent flooding of the land.

Since its addition into the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997, the windmills have been one of the most popular Dutch tourist sites. Lucky for us, it was possibly the most ideal, picturesque day for such an outing - birds were singing, the skies were clear, and the sun blindingly bright. If you ever find yourself in the Netherlands, this is a must-visit in my books! I'm just going to let the pictures do the talking...
